 The Moto Guzzi 1200 Sport is now available in a special edition red, white and gold 'Corsa' colour scheme at no extra cost.
The Corsa features a two-tone red and white paint job complemented by gold pinstriping and a two-tone saddle. It is powered by the same smooth 1151cc v90 8v engine as  the new Stelvio NTX and Norge GT, delivering 102bhp @7000 rpm and 77ft lb or torque.
The supple handling is delivered through Marzocchi forks adjustable for pre-load, compression and rebound damping along with a similarly multi adjustable rear shock. Lightweight 3 spoke Marchesini wheels complement the handling and quality feel.
Braking is taken care of by Brembo with twin 320mm discs with 4 piston radial calipers at the front and a single 298mm disc at the rear.
Shaft drive, a bikini fairing, a well padded seat and lots of pillion space (under the removable rear seat cover) add practicality making the 1200 Sport an exceptional sports tourer.

Ducati builds some of the most beautiful bikes in the world, but at Rs 20 lakh and above, is there a significant market in India for these bikes?

Italian sportsbike manufacturer, Ducati is now setting up shop in India. Ducati Motor Holding will be operating in India via Precision Motor India Pvt Ltd, which will be the sole importer of Ducati motorcycles in the country.

‘We will be launching four different models in multiple variants. These bikes will be available starting at Rs 20 lakh to Rs 50 lakh in the Indian market,’ said Ashish Chordia, CEO, Precision Motor. He added that his company would import fifty Ducati bikes from Italy this year, increasing the number next year depending on demand.

'We strongly believe the fast growing Indian market is of a strategic importance to Ducati and we will do our best to consolidate our presence and capitalise on the huge opportunity this country has to offer,' said Ducati CEO Gabriele Del Torchio. The Italian company is expected to spend up to US$4 million towards setting up its dealer network in India. The first two showrooms will be opened in Delhi and Mumbai, with other major cities to follow in 2009.

Ducati manufactures high-performance sportsbikes and superbikes which are famous for their V-twin engines. The Italian company has been extremely successful in World Superbikes and MotoGP, the two top professional motorcycle roadracing series in the world.

In India, 114% import duties will be levied on Ducati bikes, making them extremely expensive by world standards. From Rs 21.75 lakh for the Ducati 848 to Rs 48 lakh for the Ducati 1098R, these bikes will only be for the super-rich.

In the recent past, Pune-based Kinetic had imported some units of the Hyosung GT250, a Korean-built sportsbike that sold for Rs 1.80 lakh. And Yamaha is also selling the R1 superbike and MT01 musclebike, both of which are priced upwards of Rs 12 lakh, in the Indian market.

Other Japanese bike makers as well as Bajaj-KTM are also expected to bring in bigger, sportier bikes to India this year, while Tata is said to be considering buying a stake in MV Agusta, another Italian company that makes some of the best superbikes in the world

 Over the years, Ducati has built a pristine reputation as one of the best motorcycle manufacturers in the world. They’re expensive as heck, too, but that’s besides the point. The point here is that it doesn’t take a lot to make a Ducati bike an eye-catcher, but if you’re really trying to hit for the fences and going a tad overboard is an open option, then maybe you’ll find these special edition 1098 and 1198 Ducati bikes suitable for your palette.

Designed by Danish artist, Kristian van Hornsleth, these special edition bikes have been dressed up in 10 unique – and that’s saying it lightly –paint schemes, all of which fall under Hornsleth’s “Kill Me Fast” series.

We don’t know how appropriate the name is given that these machines are about as close to a death ride for the reckless as it can get– a 0-60 mph time of under three seconds and a top speed of 198.8 mph does that to you – but considering the meticulous detail and flashiness of the designs, there’s something mysteriously alluring about these bikes.

Not that we can afford one, but hey, we can settle for everything short of actually buying one, including needlessly looking at the photos far longer than we should. Check them out and you might end up doing the same.

New BMW K1200S Superbike 2011

BMW has at long last released details of its new K1200S. The new bike is a huge departure from the norm for BMW and it's a bike that has a number of innovative features. A new engine for the 1200S, a transverse in-line four instead of the longitudinal in-line fours in previous K models, BMW claims the 1157cc engine is the narrowest in its class and produces 160bhp. The cylinders are also tilted forward 55 degrees thus keeping the weight low down and distributing the mass of the bike evenly from front to rear.

The new K1200S uses a new non-telescopic electronically adjusted front suspension design with two parallel links, which BMW says "decouples wheel control from suspension and damping" and "transfers the forces optimally into the frame structure" for "steering precision second to none even when braking." The drivetrain uses BMWs traditional shaft final drive with an all-new gearbox, and the bike retains BMW traditions like anti-lock braking (ABS) and a catalytic converter in the exhaust.

BMW MOTORRAD RAISES THE VEIL: The K 1200 S high performance sports bike

The time for speculation is over. Now it's official: this year BMW Motorrad will introduce the K 1200 S, a completely new and fascinating high performance motorcycle in the sport segment.

The K 1200 S was designed as a sport bike and is a completely separate motorcycle within the K family. It is radically new, featuring an unprecedented number of innovations. It is a high-precision sport bike offering unique agility as well as enormous output. Its power to weight ratio is on the level with the competition and almost 50 percent better than the K 1200 RS, thus leaving no wishes unfulfilled with regard to riding performance.

The low weight and extremely agile chassis help the K 1200 S deliver superior handling in any situation.

The K 1200 S is powered by a transversely mounted 1157-cc four-cylinder inline engine with integrated transmission and is unique among sport bikes due to its overall concept in conjunction with the lightweight construction shaft drive.

The extreme forward tilt of the cylinder bank (55 deg.) ensures a low center of gravity. In this way it was possible to achieve an ideal wheel load distribution of 50:50 percent in combination with the overall geometric layout. The engine has an extraordinarily narrow design achieved by a series of special design features. The engine width at the crankshaft level is approximately the same as for 600-cc engines. This not only allows for very deep engine installation and maximum lean angle, it also gives the bike a narrow and sporty silhouette.

The engine can rev up into the five-digit regions and output exceeds 160 hp (more than 117 kW). Environmental compatibility is safeguarded by a closed-loop three-way catalytic converter and digital engine electronics, which have been standard features on all BMW motorcycles for years. The engine of the K 1200 S is based on the latest generation as presented at the beginning of the year in the R 1200 GS. It also features integrated knock control and in this advanced four-cylinder engine, it represents the most sophisticated engine management system currently available for motorcycles.

The K 1200 S is also highly innovative on the suspension side. A revolutionary front wheel suspension using two parallel links—without telescopic forks—ensures extremely sensitive response together with excellent precision, outstanding overall rigidity and low weight. The electronically adjustable suspension also represents a world first in production motorcycle manufacturing.

The new K 1200 S is of course also equipped with the unique BMW Motorrad Integral ABS in the partially integral version. In conjunction with the EVO brakes, this system ensures maximum deceleration and the shortest of braking distances in all road conditions.

The new BMW K 1200 S will be presented to the international public in September of this year at the INTERMOT motorshow in Munich. It will be launched onto the market soon after. The price has not yet been set. All familiar models of the K family, the K 1200 RS, the K 1200 GT and the K 1200 LT will remain part of the model range beyond 2004.
